The F80 tech manual also states one of the changes to the gearbox for the F80/F82 was the removal of the emergency release.
2233 posts ยท Joined 2007. #2 ยท Aug 1, 2009. Keep trying to get it into neutral. Turn it off/on. Was this yesterday try again maybe you will get lucky. Otherwise I think you need to disconnect/reconnect the battery. I think i'm right. Other's have had this problem, especially on the '06 model.
Just leave the gear engaged (D) and switch off the engine, the gear will automatically shift to park. This is what we learn from a new educational video from the Bavarian manufacturer on YouTube

I assumed it was just a single sensor failure, but now i've had chance to test it it seems the entire system isn't working.
